Accelerated Program of Study
In Horry County middle schools, students may have the option of participating in an accelerated program of study in English/Language Arts and Mathematics based upon state identification of gifted along with meeting specific district criteria for placement. This program of study accelerates the content of ELA and mathematics by one or more years and may be faster paced and use more complex texts than an honors course of study. Additionally, your child may have the opportunity to earn high-school credits by taking Algebra I Honors, Geometry Honors, or English I Honors as a part of this accelerated program of study.
The HCS Middle School Accelerated Program of Study Power Point Presentation will provide further information about the program. The Middle and High School Tiers of Gifted Services-ELA & Math will help to understand the course progressions in each grade level.
