Immunization Requirements

In South Carolina, a Tdap vaccine is required for students entering 7th grade. The Tdap is a booster vaccine which continues to protect your child against three serious diseases: tetanus, diphtheria, and pertussis (whooping cough).  To meet the requirement, the Tdap vaccine must be given on or after age 10.  SC State law requires valid documentation of immunization status or exemption be provided to the school for each student.  Failure to provide valid documentation will result in the student not being allowed to attend school and these absences are unexcused.  Your health care provider or your local public health department can assist you with this requirement.  If you need an appointment or have any questions about SC DPH Regulation 61-8, please contact the SC DPH Immunization Program at 1-855-472-3432 or https://dph.sc.gov/public/vaccinations.
